Honestly, this is one of the top ramen spots on the peninsula! One of the best black garlic ramen bowls I've ever had in my life actually (and I have had ramen in Japan).
There are about 9-10 tables inside and you order on the electronic tablet attached to each table. Service is really quick. We have come multiple times when they are both empty and super packed and each time we have received our orders within ten minutes of ordering.
Broth is super flavorful. This place also has some of the best chashu cuts ever. So much flavor and not dry! And the black garlic is made to perfection. It doesn't taste too burnt. The noodles are thin and that's my favorite kind. I don't really have much else to say except that the ramen is excellent. Just try it for yourself.

The Black Garlic soap tastes rich and great. The service is great. Thank you for the food and service today! Happy holiday!

Been here when it first opened years ago but decided to come back to meet a friend for dinner cuz it was a nice easy spot to meet. I ordered the tonkatsu ramen and she had the black garlic ramen. What a great deal they both were. The unami flavors were different for each broth but there was depth to the them. The waitstaff was super chill and gladly refilled our water glasses. The portion was decent and you can't beat the free parking. I will definitely be coming back with my family to grab a ramen with tons of parking!

This newly-opened ramen restaurant started with the owners, who fell in love with the animated movie known as "Totoro." They eventually decided to open up a ramen spot in San Mateo inspired by the movie. Their entire mission is to provide a magical adventure just like the movie through their self-order system, excellent customer service, and brewed bone broth!

Solid spot for ramen.
The iPad ordering system at each table is very efficient, but also means that I couldn't customize my bowl exactly the way I would with a regular server (I sometimes ask to sub out certain vegetables for others; the only ingredient you can sub on the iPad here is the noodles).
The black garlic broth tasted as expected but it did hit the spot. The kale noodles are a fun color but don't taste any different from regular ramen noodles. The chicken karaage was surprisingly good: lightly battered and well-cooked.
We'd come again if we had a ramen craving and wanted a relaxed experience.

Totoro Ramen is definitely a gem! My friend and I were craving curry on a Monday, most Japanese cuisine restaurants don't open on Monday/Tuesday, and we didn't know what do to... we found Totoro Ramen!
We both ordered King Chicken Katsu Curry and oh man, the portion was HUGE. I could easily split it into 3 meals, and that's a bonus for me since who doesn't love to bring declious leftovers home :P Chicken Katsu was crispy and went well with the curry. I like how the King Chicken Katsu Curry includes a Japanese-style salad on the side, what a nice way to balance the meal with a healthy approach, I approve!
Overall, I enjoy my dining experience at Totoro Ramen, and self-ordering iPad is very convenient. I can't wait to come back and try ramen next time.

Came to Totoro Ramen on a cold night because ramen sounded really good, but I knew I wanted something light at the same time, so I opted for the veggie ramen, which doesn't use pork broth. Instead, it's essentially a light shoyu broth, but I did ask for medium spice. The spice came through fairly clear, probably because I didn't have pork broth to mitigate it, but that's all good because I like a kick!
One thing that stood out to me was the fact that I could use the ordering iPad to request the ramen be made less salty. That's a great customization option for people who find ramen too salty for them!
Overall, I enjoyed my ramen. It came with the essential assorted toppings, and the fried silken tofu had a really light batter that works well with the broth.
I did order a side of extra tofu that never came, but the server very quickly asked if I still wanted it or just wanted it taken off the tab once he found out. Service was great!

ramen was really really good! i thought the broth was really tasteful and the toppings were filling. i added extra fried tofu to my ramen. i love how this restaurant is set up, i can talk to the waiter but i can order through the tablet too if i want. love the totoro theme too :)
